ZTV 1995-06-04 By ??? Sent to BEP by Matts Henning Matts.Henning@ABC.SE "Interview transcript" Speaker: There are some day when the Icelandic singer Björks life is just like any other tenant. You don't put up a satellite-dish on the roof of the tenement house without any complaint in the conservative part of London where Björk lives. Björk: I had put satellite-dish on my roof. It was a present from a friend, and...and they are very offend and hurt now because I don't ask them first. So now I have a bit of battle, they want to get a lawyer and get me my satellite-dish down, but though, we see what happens. (she smiles) They are all little excentrical these...mostly foreign who live on their own and they're quite lonely and they have nothing to do, so they have meetings once a week and deside that...what color they should paint the house then ??? talk about every year and they desided to paint it white again. Speaker: You are not the only one disputing with the old ladys in the stairs, Björk has the same problem. And extra hard is it for her as she works alot at home. There she plans her videoshotings and stage- preformances. Björk: I'm half, I'm actually think I'm half five-year-old and the other half of me is about fifty. But the side that's fifty of me is very private. And people don't see that side of me, because actually I'm very organized, I'm very disciplined. I work very much. And I've always been like this since I was a kid. And people just don't see that side of me, they see the five-year-old because that's the person that's outside, y'know. Speaker: Disiplined and orginized is what she is. And when it comes to relationships, then Björk is quite conservative. Björk: Ye, I'm very over-romantic and I very very much belive in relationships and... But I don't think they are as simple as being husband and wife, y'know. I definitely belive that there is something as meeting a person and being with her for the rest of your life. Speaker: Björk is a tech-freak. She's very interested in music- technology as well as things one use at home. The global network InterNet for example, on which she is connected to. Björk: Ye, I think InterNet is brilliant. It's the closesed to anarchy I've seen, y'know. Interviewer: Do you use it yourself? B: Ye. But at the same time people mustn't forget that these are just tools. And I think that people were terrified in the begining of the centuary when people discovered telephone. They were like - "But people are gonna stop meeting. They're just gonna talk on the telephone and beeing inside their houses all the time.". But it's nonsence y'know, of course, nothing will ever be a substitute for meeting another person. And people say - "Computers are gonna to take over and control us.", and so much nonsence. Just as much as telephone is not going to take over and control us. These things are just tools. But I think they're brilliant because they gives you so much freedom. And today for me, my point of view as a musician, and I think this is for most jobs, is I can have a DAT machine this big (holding her index fingers 20 cm apart) and record with the best possible quality, digital recording, with this big microphone (showing 3 cm) wherever I am. I could record an album in my toilet.
