RTBF 1993-12 By ??? Sent to BEP by Renaut Ryckaert ryckaert@tele.ucl.ac.be "Interview of Björk" I'm very proud of my album. With this album, it's my first chance I get to put my music out abroad, for foreigners. And I somehow expect the same thing to happen here [in Belgium], that maybe like 20% of the people who like the Sugarcubes, who like my music, that they would like this album. In Iceland, it's like all people who collect stamps, and people who do chemistry experiments in their backrooms, and y.k [= you know] so extreme such things, they get really into my music. I expected to that but there's be lot more than this, actually. Well I always love too many people. Well I wouldn't say too many people but I love so many people. I don't only love people, I love ... I'm quite naive in my relationship to most things. I love them, y.k. And lot of people pointed out to me my album for example is full of love songs. I go like "What?!?". Then I go back to listen to it to try to understand what they meaned, and I realize that half of the songs are not love songs to people, but are maybe love songs to food, or love songs to countries, or love songs to cars, or love songs to sex, or whatever y.k. I'm very one-dimensional when I come to that. I get very obsessioned and I love things, y.k. It's good and it's bad, y.k. Me and my son we like to sleep till 10 or 11. Then we have breakfast and we go to the swimming pool. In Iceland, it's as common as caf'es in Paris. Our swimming pools are filled with natural cold water, ... hot water sorry. People are there chatting, y.k, outside in the snow. And then he goes to school and I work a lot. I'm a bit overworked. We meet in the evening and I do some more work after he comes to sleep in my house. I like to write around midnight, in my house on my own. Q. About The Englishmen: It's just a very strange way out that they are related to foreigners. And I'm probably quite lucky, y.k, because I'm got white skin, y.k. But all their deal with other cultures are just like with weird species, like a thing that could till entertain you. I think they deal with someone like people from their former colonies. It's like a rhino head that you put on the wall and enjoy it and when you don't like it any more, you just throw it throughout the window. There was a lot of misunderstanding to me and my music like that I was just exotic and weird, eskimo. Actually, it's like they can't deal with it on face values. They can't deal with other people being their equal. They have to be superior. Q. Do you think you will be one day prime minister of Iceland? No. My father is into politics. He's fighting for the working class in Iceland. He's in an union. He's very political. Q. But you're not? I am, but not in the traditional way. I'm more in individual or personal politics.
