"Raves"


MILTON NASCIMENTO; He's brilliant. Odd chords, so it brings a bit of an 
edge. I listen to him when I'm in a shivery mood, kind of like you 
haven't got any skin on. And it makes me happy.

PIRATE JUNGLE RADIO STATIONS; I pick them up in London. If I say what 
jungle music's like, it makes it so banal. It's an attitude, very happy 
and organic, while hard-core techno is banging your head against a wall.

OLIVIER MESSIAEN French Compser; My favorite pieces are the ones he did 
for organ. He used to travel and write down the notes of birds singing. 
He'd take them home to his wife, and she would sing them for him. It 
suits the organ well mystically.

"STORY OF THE EYE" Georges Bataille, (CITY LIGHTS); A boy and a girl go 
on a mission to do everything they want to do. An anti-morality, on-the-
road book. It changed my life. Books like that proved to me that I 
wasn't mad.

"THE TIM DRUM"; A film that affected me very much. Especially the boy, 
the actor. Probably the only person in the world I'd recognize in the 
street and I'drun up and kiss.

ICELAND; I used to puke in the faces of all the cosmic people who talk 
about Iceland as one of the energy centers of the world. But it's true. 
I'm not sure if it's just in my head, but when I go there, I recharge my 
batteries. I get over neurotic in cities. Which is good.

"UNFINISHED SYMPATHY" Massive Attack; One of my all-time favorite 
videos. It's one shot of a woman as she walks down the street in L.A. 
It's really beautiful, so focused but so simple.

WARP LABEL; I've been listening to a lot of things on Warp label. 
Sensual, feminine, eccentric techno, especially the band Black Dog.

TOVE JANSSON Children's-book author; She writes about this valley with 
elves. Her books have a lot of anarchy in them. I read them to my son, 
Sindri, who loves them.
