M3 1996 By ??? "[unknown title]" The Q: "Tell me about 'Hyper-Ballad'. Why do you talk about having to throw things off a cliff - car-parts, bottles and cutlery - just so that you can "feel happier to be safe up here with you". What does that mean?" Bjork: "Well, It's about when you fall in love, you never know that this might be the last time you will fall in love in your life, so it becomes very precious to you. And you become overprotective. So everytime you meet the person you love, you only show your goodside to the person, you make sure they never see your bad side, so you can keep this love. It used to happen to all my friends. They're always: "Hi honey" always sweet like this to the one. In about three years, the "bag" behind their back is too heavy, so they hoave to go get rid of all the bag so they can continue to be sweet. They are agressive, but only when away from the person they love, so they can come back and they have no more bag. And they go: "Hi honey, how are you?" I think alot of people do this. With normal friends, you can show all your sides. Like with with your best friend, you can be humorous, insane, protective, a prankster, sweet or you can be sad, all in the same day. But with a lover, you are just very sweet. You keep all the energy behind your back. And I think you do this when you fall in love. You split your character into two: the dark and the bright. And you only show the bright. So "Hyper-Ballad" is Hyper and Ballad. The verse is the dark side and the chorus is the bright side. The chorus is I'm here with you, and it's only me and you. And then you have to go and mmmmmmmmm [makes a deep guttural growling sound]. Because everybody has a darkside, everyone."
